I decide to check out the dcb website since they are in the process of recording a new cd and often put up lots of goodies to watch and read when they are in the recording process. There was no disappointment in what I found there. Webcams showing up to date pics of what’s happening at the barn (where they record), some blogs giving updates on what’s been tracked each day and my personal favorite: the clip of the day!

It was at this point when I seriously did a double take after finding out that Ted Nugent, aka: the nuge, terrible ted, deadly tedly, theodocious atrocious, uncle ted, sweaty teddy, great gonzos, the motor city madman, etc….. stopped by the barn to take part in a little rock n roll recording. check out these clips:

All I could do was watch in amazement. seriously!? Ted Nugent is playing on the DCB disc. That is incredible.

Well, I have been meaning to take some pics of the guitar I built since it is now finished. I have ben done with it for a few months now, but have been doing other things such as going to africa, buying a house, working on the house….. So anyways, here it is.

If you want to see more pics of the completed project as well as some pics along the way of building it, there is a link in the sidebar of this blog that will take you to a slideshow of all the photos. I hope to get a little recording of it one of these days. It is a great sounding guitar. The acoustic portion sounds awesome especially when you can crank it. The electric portion sounds really good too. I am actually really impressed with all the results. It was super fun to do. Perhaps someday I will build another guitar.

Today was absolutely amazing in terms of the weather.   Jenna and I had some things to do so we were driving around for a good part of the day.  It was beautiful though, because the windows were down and the fresh air was pouring in.  I don’t know what it is, but whenever I can put the windows down while I am driving, I am a happy guy.

0313_coffee.jpg  I have become one of those guys who has become  a “regular” at Dunn Bros, or as we like to call it: the Mighty Dunn. It is to the point now where I come in and it seems no matter who is working they just ask me; “hot or cold?”. To translate- I pretty much always get a Carmel Macchiato. The only variation is whether or not I get a hot one or an iced one. I don’t usually like being predictable, but it is kind of cool to be that guy who comes in and they start making your drink before you even order. It’s something I have seen on TV and in movies and occasionally in real life, but I never thought I would be that guy, nor would I want to be that guy, but I have to admit, it is kind of cool. Someday I am going to ruin it all by changing up my drink though. But until then, I will just gladly come in and enjoy my macchiato while I go about my day.

Well, the floors got another coat of poly today and they are looking quite fabulous.  Despite all the slowness of this process, I think they are going to turn out great!

So, Tomorrow, the last coat will be applied and then we wait till it dries fully.  Then I have to prep some walls to be painted.  Then the paint goes on along with the trim around the doors/windows as well as the crown molding and the base and shoe.  Then all the trim needs to be painted white.  So, if anyone wants to help me paint, just give me a call or stop by because there will be lots to do and I am no good at painting. At least not this kind of painting.  If it was a mural, than it would be a different story, but painting walls and trim is not my forte.

Then when that is done, we can move our furniture in and get everything in it’s place.  Plus our Range, Microwave, and dishwasher are supposed to be in this weekend or early next week, so I can get those in place and start eating at home!  I am so sick of eating fast food and microwavable items.

Well, as I type i have Cheech and Chong working on the hardwood floors I installed in the house. Ok, so it’s not Cheech and Chong, but pretty darn close. These guys are serious hippie rockers. They show up late, make excuses and continue to amaze me with their lack of professionalism. To their credit, they seem to be doing a good job, but it has been interesting. It all started when I decided to shop around for a cheaper price on sanding and finishing my floors. I was going to just do it myself, but I was advised by several people that I trust to have a pro do them. So, my friend and old boss Tom Velner gave me the info of the guy he uses and told me he charges at least 2.75 per square foot. Being on a tight budget, I decided to call around to see if I could get it cheaper and get someone to do it right away. That’s when i stumbled upon the ad of “The wood people”. They boasted 25 years of experience and low prices and all the good stuff I wanted to see. I gave them a call and talked to Karlo, who is the main guy and also a pony-tail sporting hippie rocker who loves Brian May! After finding out that they could do it within the week and were charging 2.20 per square foot, I hired them. It was the best price I could find and it seemed like it was going to be great. At first they were going to start last Thursday and planned to sand it and get the first coat of poly on it. Then they would put the second coat on Friday, and the last on Sat. Well, They called on Wed. night saying they had some things to finish up at another job, so it would now be Friday before they would start. Then the snow came, and it got pushed back to Sat. So, i am expecting them to show up at around 8:00 or so on Sat, and instead they show up at 11:45!!! I could not get a hold of them and I didn’t hear from them until about 10:30 when they called to tell me they were running late. Then they didn’t even get done sanding on Sat. because of the late start. So, The plan was for them to come Monday morning and sand the reast and get the first coat on. That didn’t happen either. They showed up at about 10:45 and continued their work and realized that they would not be able to get the first coat on because it was getting dark and the lighting was not conducive to doing a good job. That brings me to today…. They told me yesterday that they would be here at 8:00 and get the first coat on, let that dry and get the second coat on. So, I get up at 7:30 get the things I need for the day (since we can’t be on the floor) and get ready. 8:00 rolls by and they are not there. They finally showed up at 8:45. By the way…not once have they apologized for being late.

The bright side of it all is that I am saving about $400 – $700, and it has actually been fun talking about guitars and music with them. Plus, it makes for a good story. I honestly think they are doing a good job…at least I think they are. We will see when it’s all said and done. I’ll try to take some pics when it’s done and post them for you.

Well, Jenna and I are officially moved in to our new home although most of our stuff is stacked to the ceiling in one room.  The floors I installed still need to be sanded and finished, so we can’t really put furniture in it’s place until that happens.  Plus we have no oven right now.  But it is on order along with a dishwasher and microwave.  We do have our bedroom somewhat put together with the exception of the closet which has no shelves or rods to hang anything on so our clothes are just in piles on the floor.  There are a couple of guys coming tomorrow to start sanding and finishing the floors. They should be all done by Tuesday if everything goes according to plan, which probably wont happen.  They were supposed to come out on Thursday, but ended up having to finish p another job and then the crazy snow storm kept them from coming after that as well as today. So we’ll see.

We also still have to patch some walls, paint, and put trim around a bunch of windows and a door.  I think in 2 weeks things will be somewhat put in their place and then we have to deal with the fact that our bathroom downstairs consists of a toilet in a closet (no light, no sink, just a toilet); there is no heat or electrical running to one of our bedrooms; the upstairs bathroom needs to be redone; we need shelves in our closet…..and the list goes on.  But most of those projects will have to wait for a while.  We would like a little bit of sanity in between all our projects.
